Summer Fundraiser July 19, 2014

Summer Soiree July 19, 2014 at Parducci Wine Cellars

I am excited to invite you to our SUMMER SOIREE, a fabulous outdoor event at Parducci Vineyards on July 19.  This is our big fundraiser for the construction of a permanent home and school for our children at the Reveil Matinal Orphanage in Haiti. We need your support!  We want to start building this summer.  As a community we can make this miracle happen.

The night will be incredible with dinner theater, Afro Cuban music, great food, auction and dancing. We are hoping the entire community comes out and we fill the place with joy. Reserve a table for 8 and bring your friends. I personally guarantee you will simultaneously have a great time and save the world.

Please read the attached poster for details. You can get tickets at Mendocino Book Company or Haiku (Amy Warmerdam’s new active wear store) in Ukiah or Cats Meow in Willits. The tickets are $50 per person. You can send me a check written to Hearthstone Village at PO Box 933, Ukiah 95482 and I will mail your tickets back to you. Our board members have tickets too. Help us sell out! Please forward this email to your friends and spread the word.

If you are curious about our project and want to meet our girls, watch our 4 minute video of the girls and then come to our event and schmooze with our filmmaker Damian Fitzsimmons and Charlucie Jaboin the president of the Reveil Matinal Orphanage Foundation.

Let me know if you have questions.

See you there.

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing love and support.

Repose-in-Action

“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.”

Jules Verne’s classic novel tells the story of a Victorian Englishman who bets that with the advanced state of technology he can make a trip around the world in 80 days. Yet as technology ultimately fails him, it’s instead proven that his relationships with others will see him succeed in the end. Adapted for stage by Ukiah Players Theatre’s wildly imaginative teen troupe, Repose in Action, “Around the World in 80 Days” was the group’s premier production in early 2012 and is now being re-produced as a farewell as several of its founding members embark on their own voyages, leaving for college and other grand adventures. It’s been a most enjoyable ride!

Los Piratas

Los Piratas

Los Piratas (The Pirates) was formed to explore a shared love,  Afro-Caribbean music and, in particular, the older and more folk based styles of that music.     The name of the band points to the idea of borrowing music from other cultures…. sort of Cultural Plundering in the most kind hearted way!   Los Piratas play dance music of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and other Caribean islands,  music that is very much a part of community and a part of life and, above all, some of the most danceable music in the world!

The members of Los Piratas come from various musical backgrounds and are all veterans of the North Coast music scene and of bands such as Mambo This, Pura Vida, Blue Bop, Girls Night Out, Rootstock, Kevin and the Cocoanuts, Mooncoin, The Klezbeterians,  and more.

Mexico Art Program

Watercolor painting in El Cardonal

In January 2014, Lynn Meadows and Juanita Joy lead a watercolor painting class at the primary school in el Cardonal. We taught the children to have a conversation with the primary colors and introduced them to water color pencils. This is an ongoing project with Hearthstone and Tu Hogar. We plan to teach the teachers and raise support for the supplies. This will enable the program to be integrated into the school so that all of the children will experience the beauty of the colors and the nurturing arts.

A Taste of Autumn

Each year on the first Sunday in October we have our wonderful TASTE OF AUTUMN event at the Frey Vineyards in Redwood Valley. The air is cool, the leaves are turning and the harvest is coming in. We celebrate local organic food, music, wine, art and community. Families come back every year to press apples for juice, take a hay ride, bid on our auction and enjoy the magnificence of the fall. What a joy for everyone to spend the day together in nature and help us sustain the service of Hearthstone Village.

Tu Hogar Work Party

October 29, 2011: El Cardonal, BCS, Mexico.

Gran Inaguracion de la Casa Communitaria y Clinica, Tu Hogar en El Cardonal.

We realized our 7 year vision for a clinic, emergency shelter, and community building in our small Mexican Village on the Sea of Cortez. The whole community pulled together and we finished the clinic in one week. We had a team of more than 12 volunteers from Ukiah Valley Medical Center, painting, and helping create the parking lot. The Grand Opening Fiesta was a great party, with tons of local culinary delights including fresh fish! Three days later the government doctor came and saw more than 40 patients in one day. The building is so beautiful, it is beyond my wildest dreams. I cried.

Colors that Heal the Soul

Reveil Matinal Haiti, September 4, 2011

My favorite activity was another dream come true, water color painting. I gave the girls a lesson in wet on wet painting and mixing those beautiful healing colors on their paper. It was a real workout teaching six girls at a time, but we did it. Woo hoo

Haiti UVMC Video 2010

Ukiah Valley Medical Center (UVMC) Haiti Mission Project

On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 pm, the seventh deadliest natural disaster in history occurred. An estimates 230,000-250, 000 people lost their lives. 300,000 people were seriously injured and 1,300,000 people were left homeless. The resulting medical crisis was unprecedented.

Ukiah Valley Medical Center, led by Laura Wedderburn M.D. and Lynn Meadows P.A., began putting together a trip that would forever change lives. For those who went and those we served, this was our journey. Sixty volunteers from UVMC answered the call to go and provided medical care from May 7th through June 18th, 2010.
